German Parliament independent member Johanna Kotar has called on the government to end the Bitcoin sell-off. She sent this appeal to Michael Kretschmer, Deputy Chairman of the Christian Democratic Party, Finance Minister Christian Lindner, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz, describing the action as “counterproductive.” Moreover, Kotar invited them to attend her lecture with Bitcoin advocate Samson Mow on October 17th.

Kotar’s letter emphasizes Bitcoin’s potential for asset diversification to reduce risks associated with traditional asset classes. She argues that BTC can serve as a hedge against inflation and currency devaluation due to its limited supply.

Furthermore, Kotar believes that Bitcoin can stimulate innovation, economic sovereignty, and technological progress in the country.

In 2023, Kotar proposed a bill to recognize Bitcoin as legal tender in Germany, inspired by El Salvador. Recently, the German government sold a large amount of BTC, which likely also contributed to Bitcoin’s weak performance.

This sale followed the government’s acquisition of a large stock of Bitcoin tokens after the shutdown of the pirate website Movie2k.to more than ten years ago.
