CertiK’s latest cybersecurity report reveals that in the first half of 2024, on-chain security incidents resulted in losses of $119 million. According to the report, the majority of these losses stem from phishing attacks ($498 million) and the compromise of private keys ($408.9 million). The chart below details the various types of cyberattacks and the financial losses incurred.


Among the security breaches in 2024, the most significant in the second quarter was the attack on DMM Bitcoin, which led to a loss of $304 million (4,502.9 BTC), ranking among the most significant hacks in history. Additionally, at the beginning of the year, Chris Larsen, co-founder of Ripple, shared that his personal accounts at Ripple were compromised, not those of the company itself, resulting in a loss of $112.5 million.
