Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. of the United States announced that he plans to pardon Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht if he is elected president.
Kennedy expressed his support on social media, criticizing Ulbricht’s two life sentences for creating the Silk Road, an online marketplace known for illegal trade and selling illicit goods.
“Ross Ulbricht has been in prison for too long. The custodian of the e-commerce platform was sentenced to two life sentences. Yes, there was illegal activity there, but come on. I will pardon him when I become president. At the same time, I will sign a petition to release him, and I encourage you to do the same,” Kennedy tweeted on June 20, 2024.
He emphasized that while there was illegal activity on the platform, the punishment was too severe:
“When I become president, I will pardon him. At the same time, I am signing a petition to release him, and I encourage you to do the same.”
